Teachers Workshop
Staff Development
Bullying is a public health problem, tied to the larger issue of youth violence in this country. 160,000 students miss school every day because of a fear of being bullied. Students cannot focus on academics if they’re worried about walking through the halls of our schools.
Staff Development includes:
- Definition of bullying: 5 types of bullying
- Causes and effects of bullying
- Family background
- Helping the victim and reclaiming the bully
- Empowering the Silent Majority
- Sensitivity training
- Learning to create an atmosphere where there is zero tolerance for bullying
One of the primary goals of the Bully Frog Staff Development is to change children’s habits of thought through higher level thinking skills. It is self-directed, initiated by the children who then take ownership. One example is to ask a child to think of a non-aggressive way they could have chosen to handle a specific situation. The focus is not just on the bully or the victim but on the silent majority who observe and do nothing. The concept of empathy is explained and promoted. Children learn cooperation and non-violent solutions to conflicts. These concepts are needed to create caring, cooperative and kind classrooms.
This is an interactive workshop.
